Learn to use Riverscapes Studio for advanced site-scale planning of LTPBR projects. Students will assess current, historic and potential future conditions of riverscape health to prepare for design.

Who Should Attend

This advanced short course is designed for restoration practitioners, natural-resource professionals, graduate students, and GIS users who want to apply riverscape network models to project planning. Participants should already be comfortable working in GIS. Previous LTPBR coursework is helpful but not required.

What You Will Learn

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Use Riverscapes Studio to complete the LTPBR planning process for their own project.
  • Apply conservation planning and LTPBR concepts using mapping and quantitative analysis.
  • Assess and document current riverscape conditions.
  • Compare current conditions with likely historic conditions and possible future conditions.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and the site’s potential for recovery to guide future restoration design.
  • Create a presentation and report, publish the project to the Riverscapes Data Exchange, and, when appropriate, share proposed actions on PBR Explorer.

Prerequisites

Students are recommended to be proficient in GIS (See: getting started in QGIS for self-paced; see USU's Geospatial Collective for more formal training options).
