Pocket Guide - French Version
French adaptation of the LT-PBR Pocket Guide (Low-Tech Process Based Restoration) from the Riverscapes Consortium.
This pocket guide is designed to support French river professionals and practitioners who wish to integrate process-based, low-tech regeneration into their stream restoration practices. The aim of this approach is not to try to replicate and freeze what a river looks like, but rather to reactivate what a river does, how it behaves, in order to restore a healthy and self-sustaining river environment.
This pocket guide is expanded from the English version content to include more current infomration and beautiful illustrations and water colors of Suzanne Husky expanding from her work with Baptise Morizot in Rendre l'eau à la terre: Alliances dans les rivières face au chaos climatique.
The pocket guide addresses it in three parts:
- the principles and keys to understanding river environments,
- advice and steps for setting up a project to support watercourses in reactivating their processes ,
- a detailed description of the low-tech structures used to imitate two "keystone" processes: the effects of the accumulation of dead wood and the building activity of beavers (Timber Structures" and "Beaver Type Structures").
It includes a glossary, which reflects the particular attention paid to the choice of vocabulary used, as well as a list of documentary resources for further reading: recent publications, studies, dedicated websites and platforms.
This is a free adaptation of the "Low-tech Process-based Restoration of Riverscapes: Pocket Field Guide" by the Riverscapes Consortium, to the French-speaking context to facilitate the understanding and implementation of this approach in Europe.
