This was an intensive 2.5-day workshop with different locations each day:

Workshop Venues & Maps
Utah State University, Logan
Day 1 and 2 were based at the USU Campus.

Parking: Closest visitor parking is the Big Blue Parking Terrace for $10/day (waived for guests at the University Inn).
Airport Shuttles: Salt Lake Express runs a shuttle from Salt Lake City airport directly to the University Inn.

Wednesday Evening
Optional informal social at Bull's Head Grille, about a 20-minute walk from campus, starting around 6:30–7:00 PM. -
Thursday Evening
Dinner and talk by rancher Jay Wilde about Birch Creek beaver restoration, 7:00 PM at Herm's Inn.
Field Sites
Day 2 – Spawn Creek
Thanks to the Logan Ranger District, USFS, we visited Spawn Creek about 35 minutes from campus. Participants carpooled up Logan Canyon, turning right at Temple Fork FR 007.
Emergency: Logan Regional Hospital is ~35 minutes away.
Hike note: Closed-toe shoes that can get wet are required. Waders or wading boots recommended.
Day 3 – Station Creek
Meet directly on site at
5536 East Station Creek Road, Preston, ID 83263.
About an hour from Logan; carpool strongly recommended.
Emergency: Franklin County Medical Center is ~20 minutes away.
Day 3 – Exploring Birch Creek
In the afternoon, participants visited
7767 East Birch Creek Road, Preston, ID 83263
to meet Jay Wilde and the Capstone Restoration Class.
A smaller number of four-wheel-drive vehicles continued on to the US Forest Service Mill Hollow confluence area.
Field Gear
This is a hands-on workshop. Bring:
- chest waders + wading boots
- outdoor layers for any weather (including snow!)
- gloves, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen
- dry clothes to change into
- water bottle
- construction-appropriate work clothes
(no open-toed shoes allowed on Day 3)
Basic PPE (gloves, eye/ear protection, hard hats) is provided.
Notify instructors if you have allergies or medical conditions.

Vegetarian/vegan options were available, but other dietary restrictions should be self-managed.
